New Ground

Though I walk on new ground, new paths, new land,

This feels familiar but freshly aligned with where I am supposed to stand.

Walking on dead leaves, barefoot.

I contemplate: where does my hope begin, where does my dismay belong?

Though I keep dropping to my knees and rise when I feel weak, I hear God’s song.

I keep running around, sometimes slowing down, I find a new rhythm in life.

Challenges come, revelations follow, a break in the day chases away strife.

There’s darkness when it rains, but when I look up I find the light, it covers me and reigns.

I was headed in a different direction until I heard the whisper of change.

Persisting with borrowed hope, I found my heavenly Father longing to claim my heart.

So, back to this new ground, the old ground tiled up, back to a fresh part, a new start.

Back to my knees, to my beginning, a renewed introduction to my soul.

Though I’m headstrong, my shoulders are heavy and cold, life sometimes takes this toll.

The rhythms keep changing, challenging, and rousing, composing a song so silent.

It’s instinct that keeps me evolving, to look up when I am bending down defiant.

Though I walk on new ground, new paths, new land,

This feels familiar but freshly aligned with where I am supposed to stand.
